Elderly Katrina survivor receives assistance from Beltone
Teams Together was asked to help an 88 year-old woman who suffered the horrors of Katrina. The hurricane destroyed her and her husband’s New Orleans’ area home. At some point during the storm the woman had lost her hearing aid. After the hurricane, the couple was bussed to the Terrebonne Parish-Civic Center Shelter. Due to her physical needs after the storm, the woman was transported to an area rest home for care. Now she was homeless, separated from her husband, and unable to hear properly. Furthermore, Medicaid would not cover the replacement of her hearing aid, and the expense was more than the elderly couple could afford. Unable to find assistance locally, a caregiver contacted us. After contacting Beltone, they provided the exact hearing aid she was prescribed, as well as covered the local representative costs of service.
Thanks to Beltone, another Katrina survivor can hear again. |
