Car Give Away:
Houma , LouisianaCars4Chistmas donated vehicles to Teams Together that we in turn gave to families in lower Terrebonne Parish that lost a car in either Katrina or Rita . Christmas Car Give Away – Disaster Relief ProjectThe Car Give Away Project all started during our ’05 Year-End Fundraising when a vehicle was donated to Teams Together. We were in the middle of helping hurricane Families In Crisis in lower Louisiana, as part of our Katrina & Rita Disaster Relief Project. We researched some of the greatest needs that were not being met. We have all seen the photos: cars in trees, cars upside down in front yards, cars strewn across roadways. It is no surprise that one of the greatest needs was individuals and families that lost transportation during the flooding of Rita . Louisiana Families in Desperate Need of Cars!We called our donor and asked if he had any more cars that we could give to some of these families. His response: “You find a car transport and I’ll fill it!” Within days, we had a car transport donated by Road Warriors! Mike McKeever and his staff were excited to help the families in lower Louisiana. Mike and his family even attended the Car Give Away Event! Nominees: Who Were the Neediest??We were off… all we had to do was decide, of the over 10,000 displaced families in this area, “Who Were the Neediest!” We decided on the criteria for nominating families:
No one knew who the recipients were except the Teams Together staff and volunteers until the Car Give Away Event. Teams Together included their vehicle in Give AwayTo provide for a large family in need that we couldn’t leave out, we went back to our auto donor to ask if we had his permission to take the vehicle he donated to us, and pass it on to a family who had transportation needs greater than Teams Together. He said, “I trust your judgment, do what you think is best!” So, we included our vehicle in the give away. Many Local Businesses HelpWe enlisted the help of many local businesses to help this become a reality for their local residents including Martin Folse , and his staff at local TV station, KFOL/HTV 10 . They helped get the word out about the Car Give Away on the Houma Court House steps December 23 rd! Rene Rhodes was interviewed on the air for a show that repeated until the give away. This event was made possible through the generous contributions from businesses in Kansas City Missouri, Kansas City, Kansas, Omaha Nebraska, and Houma Louisiana. Projects are made possible by private and corporate donations. If you would like to contribute to our projects, please contact us, or mail your contribution to our corporate offices. |
