Families in Crisis Project
Our volunteers worked with several families, orphanages, elderly and children. From food gift cards, gas cards, helping with utilities after a death in the family due to cancer, food, insurance payment, and general needs with a helping the working class with a hand up, as well as educating them how to carry on. They were adults struggling to keep their families together after losing their jobs and/or key family members and could not find their way out of their situation long-term. We assisted them with resources to carry them through their financial short-fall, as well as guided them into alternate jobs with the skills they have.
As an example, when asked to help serve a community devastated by a local leader dying with cancer, our volunteers stepped in when the family was left incapable of making decisions any longer due to the ongoing stress of cancer. We stood by the family and leader during their last breath of life, lending comforting words as well as accommodating physical needs necessary to be as comfortable as possible through the death process. We were there with the family after their loved one was called home. These times are difficult, even when planned. The reality hits, and you cannot think clearly any longer. Having spent years developing a relationship with the family, we were able to step in to assist in funeral arrangements where the family had lost hope and, a loved one; fear and anger had set into their minds to where they could not make decisions clearly. No one expects someone to go through death of cancer alone, but with dignity, love, respect and honor. That is what we exemplified to their community for such a tragic loss to a shortened life.
Measure of effectiveness was we helped once, pointed them into the right direction to help themselves so that they are not dependent on the governmental system to sustain themselves.
