Women's Roles

Some members of our board were able to meet with women from around the world and talk about the things that were on their heart: children, families, values, education, there impact on their family, there season in life, breaking the barriers of misunderstanding, and the state of the world they will leave for their children.

We developed friendships and worked on understanding each other, as well as talked through the misconceptions we have about each other, our cultures, our lifestyles, and came to a new understanding of each other. We were able to then talk about our fears, the fears for our children, the sorrows we carry, and discuss that we are not alone. Women of each culture share the same feelings, some are more magnified and on the edge of others, but we all have them. Our goal is to continue these friendships, and encourage more women to come so that we can perhaps influence our children with open minds and hearts as the next generation of leaders.

Families in Crisis

A woman was part of corporate layoffs. She is a single-again mother with 2 teenagers at home, and a grandchild on the way.
After using all her savings, and being without work for months, she was forced to settle for a job without benefits and barely able to pay the bills. The job market is tight after so many layoffs. All you can do is pray nothing goes wrong. But things did go wrong - everything! She found herself at her wits-end. The paychecks didn’t cover the basic needs, her ex-husband stopped paying child support, she was behind on the rent, her car died on the way to work, her daughter’s car had an electrical problem, there was no food in the house, and finally she was served an eviction notice.
Now what? “I’ve never been in this position before, and we don’t know what to do, or where to turn.”
Fortunately, her sister knows Teams Together, who called to see if we knew of anyone who could help. After assessing the immediate needs, we made some calls.
We were able to provide specific assistance for her needs, deliver boxes of food and meats, as well as get an interview for a “cross-training program” for laid off workers getting back into the job market.
She can be trained in a career where she will get benefits, provide for her family, and not worry about survival.
“It was so overwhelming, I couldn’t even think of what to do. THANK YOU for giving me direction and helping me through the dark hours!” Now, she sees daylight.

Youth

Youth Mentoring

The Program Director seeks out mature adults that are willing to mentor a youth for their field of business. The mentor teaches the youth their business, work ethics, integrity, accountability, coping skills and living a well - balanced life. The commitment is one year, during which they meet with their accountability team. This project opens doors for the youth for scholarships and career opportunities.

YOUNG MUSICIAN PREPARES FOR CONCERTS

A young aspiring musician recently attended the Symphony for the first time. His teacher, who believes he has great promise, gave him two tickets. He and his mother spotted two Teams Together Board Members that night, and greeted them, expressing their thorough enjoyment of the event. In the midst of the conversation, the young man volunteered his embarrassment about what shoes he was wearing; when he went to put on his dress shoes that night, they were too small. Naturally, our hearts went out to him.

We comforted him that it didn’t matter, "let’s enjoy the concert." But being consciously aware of the growing teenager and his need for proper attire, we decided to help prepare him for the next event.

Through a contribution from Target Stores, Teams Together acquired a gift certificate for this young musician, to purchase new clothes for his recitals and his next evening at the Symphony!

Men – Family in Business

Teams Together had the amazing privilege of helping a man with a micro-enterprise business.
He is a father of a family of 5 and had come face to face with serious medical issues impeding his ability to work outside the home. While in recovery from a series of operations, he began researching a business that he could do at home to help support his family. With his strong background in business, computers and the creative he decided on web design as a possibility. With the majority of his savings going toward his family’s living expenses and additional medical expenses, the start up costs were a little out of reach.

Through our employment assistance and re-training project, Teams Together was able to provide this motivated entrepreneur with “Dream Weaver” software. Now he is off to a strong start with the help from a marketing strategist affiliated with Teams Together, and is in the initial stages of building a dynamic small business while continuing his medical treatments. We are motivated to give a hand up to a family in need and see them prosper.
