Women Step into Business
Downsizing is the word we hear everywhere and yet hate to hear. It has hit Corporate America like never before. Over educated, over experienced, and financially
over-committed, it’s harder to find job replacements that we can afford to take.
As is the case with a Kansas City woman that was introduced to us. “I’ve been out of full-time work for over a year, and I am told I am over qualified and they don’t want to hire me, there aren’t openings or the pay is so low I can’t make ends meet. I’ve been taking short-term jobs but it’s still a stretch and stressful knowing it’s not going to last.” She had a desire to start her own business, had had many inquiries and some contracts but without funding it seemed impossible.
Teams Together thought it appropriate to help her establish a business base where her imagination would be her only stopping point. We purchased business tools and paid for training for her to expand her small business enterprise. We have been able to assist her in finding resources for some of her basic needs as well.
We meet weekly and talk about business, how her life is going, strategize, and help her through this period in her life. It gives her a “safe zone” to grow, heal, and have confidence someone supports her even when it’s rough. It allows a place to come, not have a “bad idea”, talk about the past week, and BE REAL. “It’s hard enough loosing your job, it’s harder when you’re out of work for so long you begin to feel like a real failure. Some days you’re so scared you can’t think; you don’t know what direction to turn. Everything seems so hopeless.” We need each other to help walk through those hopeless days, until hope arises and we can walk on our own again. “I came to Teams Together for help just to survive and had no idea I would receive help to build my own business. I have been able to network with former business contacts and already have several clients! Teams Together has been a group of supportive friends; not only helping me in practical ways but emotionally supporting and encouraging me to get up one more time and keep running the race.” |
